My current work is an observation into a rabbit egg. This rabbit fetus suffers from “Ectopia Cordis”, a very rare, and usually fatal, birth defect in which the heart is abnormally located outside the chest so that it is not protected by the skin or sternum. However, in some cases surgical treatment is possible and the heart is placed inside the body, so that an almost normal life becomes possible. According to ancient Greek culture, there is a close connection between the hurting soul and a physical deficiency (Physiognomy). What possible kind of suffering must the soul bear to cause the heart to reject the body?
