Archival images and historical documentation serve as the framework for Gilad Efrat's paintings. These "still lives" are objects to not only depict, but interpret and even critique via the canvas. Efrat selects ready-made images that signify universal human conditions. Presently, he has been considering ideas about surfaces – representations of time within isolated and eroded landscapes that he, most recently, relates to images of apes, forests, and the moon’s surface.
