The work ‘Pomp’ is made with acrylic on canvas. In Will Martyr's most recent two-dimensional works he have been looking at the highly successful visual communications and depictions of social and consumerist aspirations within Europe between 1910 and 1940. Through art movements such as Futurism, Vorticism, Art Deco and ultimately Modernism, the aspirations were clinically spelt out in images. In this painting many of the over engineered elements of the Pompidou centre in Paris are merged to create a structure in space which purports to create sound and dispel the notion that Architecture is static.
