This series of works, made especially for the website, are images sourced from a 1930's Man Ray book. They are an examination into the experience of photography – as a medium in its own right and what it is that is depicted in the image. The graphic communication, the representation of a language that is always in flux, and the forms on the page become paramount as the viewer is caught between two spaces. The two images are suspended or sliced in what might seem like a violent gesture. Yet what is achieved is a reanimation, or rhythm by the turning of the page of the unmoving image. The viewer is both allowed and denied to see, simultaneously creating a duality in the works, a potential story or a third space with this new interaction. The shapes become just that – shapes – never abandoning the play of lines and shades of grey.
