"The image was selected from a series of drawings titled Stronghold, a part of my ongoing interest in images which possess a certain utopian lure. Executed in charcoal on paper, these small scale drawings use a black and white snapshot style, in order to create a mock-archive, documenting an imaginary youth movement exploring an unknown tropical paradise. Upon examining the images closer, the viewer can tell that many of the images actually work against this story line: These images have been chosen carefully to destabilize the narrative and to offer some after-thoughts of such utopian narratives. Yet, some vague feeling of coherence remains here featured in a mysterious waterfall and porcelain deer. The result is a mixture of different times and places, images which are slightly blurred yet high in contrast, endowed with an instant patina of age and a false nostalgic glow " Hillel Roman
